The Pastry Pub

Operating in the heart of downtown Cedar City at 86 W Center Street, The Pastry Pub continues its long-standing presence as an anchor of local downtown commerce.

Known for its selection of specialty sandwiches, soups, salads, and freshly baked desserts, the establishment remains a frequent gathering place for locals, Southern Utah University students, and visitors attending nearby theater productions. The business operates Monday through Saturday, supporting downtown foot traffic and local food service employment.

Altitude Safety and Hydration on Cedar Mountain

With Cedar City sitting at an elevation of 5,800 feet—and trails on nearby Cedar Mountain reaching well above 9,000 feet—proper hydration and altitude precautions are essential for late-summer outdoor recreation.

Actionable Health Guidance for High Elevation:

  1. Increase Fluid Consumption: Due to lower humidity and higher respiratory moisture loss at elevation, drink water prior to beginning physical activity rather than waiting for thirst onset.

  2. Electrolyte Maintenance: For physical exertion lasting longer than 60 minutes, plain water should be supplemented with electrolytes containing sodium and potassium.

  3. UV Radiation Protection: Ultraviolet light intensity increases by approximately 4% for every 1,000 feet of elevation gain. Broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen should be applied regardless of cloud cover.

Cedar City Parkrun Reaches Weekly Community Milestone

Community runners and walkers gathered at Canyon Park West on Saturday morning for the weekly Cedar City Parkrun.

Organized entirely by local volunteers, the free 5K event provides a recurring, open-access space for residents of all ages and fitness levels to gather, move, and connect every Saturday morning. Participants finish the course along the Coal Creek Trail before gathering at local coffee shops, reflecting the steady community engagement that keeps Iron County active.

Utah Shakespeare Festival Reaches Final Weeks of 2026 Season

The Utah Shakespeare Festival continues its regular performance calendar across the Engelstad Shakespeare Theatre and Randall L. Jones Theatre on the Southern Utah University campus.

As the summer season moves toward autumn, the festival continues to host evening plays alongside the The Greenshow—a free, 40-minute outdoor entertainment experience presented on the Ashton Family Storefront Plaza prior to evening mainstage performances. Featuring live musicians, singers, and performers, The Greenshow remains open to the public without ticket requirements.
